The situation

Our product development team is growing, creating a need to enhance our testing capabilities.

A key focus will be to lead our test team and secure the test strategy for our product lines.
Additionally, this position will oversee the offshore testing department led by a local test manager based in Ukraine.

Therefore, we are seeking a Director for this area. The role involves ensuring cross-functional collaboration with the SW, FPGA, HW, and Product Architecture teams to establish robust and stable testing processes.

The System Test Team

The System Test Team is part of the R&D organization.

The role

The Director of System Test reports to the Chief R&D Officer (CRDO), Flemming Andersen, and will be a member of the R&D Management team, which includes the CRDO, R&D Functional Managers, Project Managers, and Product Architects.

The critical success factors:

  • Expand and mature Napatech’s test framework, securing “reasonable” coverage in functional-, regression- and performance testing.
  • Complete delivery of test-architecture/framework for a new strategic product.
  • Establish himself/herself as a “content expert” for 1-2 technological areas in the team.
  • Understand Napatech products at a feature level.
  • Understand the architecture and tools for Napatech’s test framework

Responsibilities

  • Act as the daily leader/coach for the System Test team.
  • Set the technical direction and overcome technical barriers.
  • Drive resource and activity planning/assignments in the team.
  • Sustain and grow team know-how and establish “best-known methods” in System Test.
  • Participate in growing processes and methodology across R&D as a proactive partner in the R&D Management Staff together with peers from SW, FPGA, HW, Product Architecture, Tech Support, and Project Management.
  • Specify, architect, and implement test programs for new and existing products based on an understanding of product requirements, use cases, and product functionality.

The team covers

  • Scripting in Python.
  • Shell scripting in Linux and Windows.
  • Network protocols and equipment at a user level, e.g., TCP, IP, or Ethernet.
  • Agile test methodologies and metric-driven testing.
  • Server software at OS/driver level (e.g., OS, virtual machines, containers, and hypervisors).
  • Server hardware at a system level (e.g., processor, memory, disk, and PCI Express bus).
  • Continuous Delivery/Integration based on automated toolchain w. Jenkins (admin + plugins + job definitions) and scripted automation with tools such as Ansible and Groovy.
  • GIT, Microsoft Excel, and Word at a user level.

Ideal candidate profile

You are an accomplished leader with the right human qualities to manage a technical team effectively in the IT and networking domain. You are familiar with the networking industry.

Your experience spans guiding teams through significant technological advancements and contributing to shaping critical testing and technology platforms. You have played a key role in defining technology and test platforms and specifying detailed testing requirements.

Below are the key aspects of your background and previous experience:

  • Educational background as an electrical engineer, software engineer, or similar.
  • Experience as a people leader and hands-on tester/developer in the HW/SW industry.
  • Previous hands-on experience with coding, such as Phyton.
  • Demonstrated leadership in guiding System Test Teams.
  • Provided test tools, methods, and test coverage to offer insights into critical product performance.
  • Experience handling bug reports, extracting data, and building test databases.
  • You have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, as you will be part of a growing international environment, and many of your colleagues will speak in English.
  • You live in the Copenhagen area or are willing to relocate.
  • EU citizens are preferred.
