Bühler Denmark A/S

Bühler Denmark A/S and Business Unit (BU) is an independent manufacturer and distributor of high-end baking machinery.

The Biscuit Unit is part of the Grains & Food Division of the Bühler Group. The BU has 191 employees, with HQ in Skovlunde/Copenhagen and a Manufacturing Site in Rødkærsbro (63 employees).

Our machines, typically delivered within 6 months of customer orders, are based on standard machinery but allow customization. This provides technical challenges as we tailor solutions to meet specific customer needs.

Bühler has an Application & Training Center in Skovlunde HQ, a collaborative platform to inspire and innovate. It is also where customers can test machinery and experiment with recipes on demonstration lines.

The position

We are seeking an Automation Engineer to make and implement control systems for our high-end baking machinery. This includes oven control for tunnel ovens and dough handling related to our customers’ projects.

The equipment and solutions are delivered worldwide, and you will work closely with the other engineers in the team, the project managers, and other departments. You will also be in close contact with the company’s customers and Buhler’s other production sites.
For each project, you must create software for a fully functional control system that the installation department can install and commission with minimal support from your side. All production and assembly is carried out from Austria (Leobendorf).

We are working towards having more standardized software that is quicker and easier to scale.

You will be part of our Automation team in Skovlunde, which is part of the Electrical and automation department, which covers teams in Skovlunde, Rødkærsbro (Jutland), and Leobendorf (Austria).

You will refer to the Department Head of Automation, based in Skovlunde.

There is some traveling to Leobendorf and customers, with flexibility to fit your schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design of PLC and HMI control systems for oven lines, including tunnel ovens, conveyor systems, dough feeding systems, depositors, and other equipment.
  • Set up the industrial network, frequency converters, servo drives, etc.
  • Systems test at the office in Skovlunde.
  • Support for customers and field engineers across the globe.
  • Commissioning of custom-engineered machines.
  • Collaboration with the company’s other departments, both in Denmark and abroad, in connection with the production of large baking lines.
  • Travel to customers and Buhler Group manufacturing sites.

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate is interested in working in a more traditional machinery-building industry or already has experience. Our systems and designs are more open and flexible, perhaps more grounded in the real world where you can taste the product!

You should be interested in close involvement with our customers, who often require tailored solutions. We are working with new technologies in oven design and state-of-the-art electric-powered ovens. So, having ideas and being creative is welcomed in this role. You should be able to think out of the box and enjoy different tasks and a broader role depending on your profile and experience.

Candidate qualifications

  • Hold a relevant education such as electrical automation engineer (BSc/BEng) or engineer (Maskinmester) or Automationsteknolog.
  • Experience in PLC programs using Ladder Logic and Structured Text.
  • Experience with HMI an advantage.
  • Capable of interpreting electrical schematics to support PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Extensive knowledge of PLCs and servo systems; our primary systems are Allen Bradley and Siemens.
  • A general interest in the mechanical components of machinery is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of standards such as EN 60204-1 and EN 13849 is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the food industry is an advantage but not a requirement.
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English.
  • Living in the Copenhagen area with a valid work and resident permit.
  • Prepared for some travel activity in connection with customer visits and commissioning as well as meetings in other of the group’s companies.

Why you should join the Bühler Group
