All main functions in the company are in Søborg, DK, including production facilities, so everyone sits door to door with easy access to each other. Ferrosan Medical Devices A/S develops and produces a portfolio of hemostatic products to aid surgery and minimize bleeding challenges (SPONGOSTAN™ and SURGIFLO™). The products are registered as medical devices (Class III). They are sold internationally in over 100 countries in close collaboration with the primary customer and innovation partner, Johnson & Johnson MedTech. All main functions in the company are in Søborg, DK, including production facilities, so everyone sits door. We also have a site with colleagues in Szczecin in, Poland.

 

The Clinical Insights department

The Clinical Insights department identifies unmet user needs and integrates user experiences into product development, ensuring user feedback is incorporated throughout the development process—from idea conception to market release. The department is responsible for incorporating usability engineering into the products and to be in compliance with applicable human factors engineering/usability engineering guidelines and standards. The department comprises a highly skilled team of three colleagues, including you.

We are looking for a User Insights Specialist with an exploratory mindset to take on a broader role in early-phase projects. In this role, you will contribute to identifying unmet user needs through cross-functional collaboration.

 

Your role

Clinical Insights is part of the New Business Development Department and works closely with Device R&D, Product Innovation, Product Development, and Commercial Development.

You will join us at an exciting time as we are in the process of updating our innovation strategy to shape the future of our products and business. You will participate in identifying and addressing user needs. From a user-centered perspective, you will help to explore unmet needs within surgery and haemostasis and related areas. Our key priority is to explore unmet needs among surgeons and nurses, paving the way for new product opportunities and business potential.

You can expect a role primarily focused on usability and identification of user needs. Still, as part of a smaller team, you should be flexible to support in matters where our knowledge is required. This may include product assessment, support of evidence generation, etc.

You report to the Head of Clinical Insights.

Your role will include:

  • Identify and explore unmet user needs within surgery.
  • Contribute to various projects across the organization.
  • Participate in ongoing user studies, including hospital visits where possible and gathering feedback from users on prototypes, etc.
  • Interpret user and market insights, presenting recommendations to the innovation team.
  • Generate usability engineering documentation and support risk management.
  • Evaluate whether adjustments in materials or production processes meet acceptable usability specifications.
  • Conduct or initiate user evaluations when necessary to validate the impact of changes on usability.
  • Draft protocols and reports to document usability-related evaluations.
  • Ensure coordination and alignment with the external customer.

 

The ideal candidate

You have a strong ability to uncover the core of what users need and want to have solved within surgery. Your academic background has equipped you with experience in writing and thoroughly documenting your work, combining a structured approach with creative thinking. You are calm and grounded, with experience navigating situations where engineers may pull in different directions in a creative process.

In addition, your profile contains

  • You hold an educational background in healthcare, life sciences, medical health sciences, or a related field, at least at the bachelor’s level.
  • You bring a few years of experience in user needs identification and usability/human factors engineering, ideally within the MedTech industry.
  • You excel at gathering valuable insights from users through voice of customer and usability engineering methods, translating these insights into product features and design requirements in collaboration with an innovation team.
  • You work thoroughly, methodically, and with attention to details when managing multiple usability documents.
  • You are familiar with the IEC 62366 usability engineering standard and FDA guidance for applying human factors and usability engineering to medical devices.
  • You have strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • You are fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • You possess interdisciplinary skills that enable you to contribute effectively to innovation processes and project work.
  • You are a team player.
